We are a group of passionate wine lovers, and as it turns out a damn fun group to be around! We all met taking wine appreciation classes at Cabrillo College with Sue Slater as our instructor. The wine program gathered some steam and soon the college was adding more classes to the schedule. Onto the scene arrived a local award winning wine maker of Vine Hill Winery, Sal Godinez. He agreed to take on a class that Sue wanted to add to the curriculum, Begining Winemaking. Those of us currently enrolled in Sues other classes quicky filled the roster for Sals class, Cabrillo College took the hint and enlarged the class size to sixty students. That action is what proved to be the catylist for starting our group. Being that the class was now sixty students, Sal was unable to bring us all to the vineyard for the production of the barrel of wine he had intended for the class. Frustrated with the change, we formed a co-op of students and with Sals Guidance we purchased some grapes from a local grower and started the process that we all hope will never end. Our first year together we made some wonderful Pinot Noir and a Zinfandel. We made mistakes along the way, but with the knowlege gained from the classes at Cabrillo we were able to identify the problems and address them before damage was done to the wine. With an eye to the future we will not forget the past, we will press on again this year with another exciting line up of wines.
